Background

Welcome
Whether you're stuck in your life, struggling with low self-esteem, having relationship problems, or suffering from anxiety, depression, or addiction, now is the perfect time to start therapy! I am an openly gay therapist, in private practice for more than a dozen years, helping couples deepen their relationships, and helping clients with problems like yours transcend those problems and live meaningful lives. Let me help you move forward.

For my entire career I have been providing mental health services to our LGBTQ community focusing on issues we face, like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, internalized homophobia, coming out, family problems, discrimination, sexuality, substance abuse, sex addiction, HIV/AIDS (grief/loss, recent diagnosis, serodiscordant relationships), and transitioning (both MTF and FTM).

My approach is client-centered, drawing from traditional and holistic approaches, using empathy, warmth, and insight to address your individual needs. I will collaborate with you and we can come up with some obtainable goals that we can work towards together. After a session or two, we can figure out together if a short term approach or a longer term approach is best. Then we will periodically review our goals together to see how things are progressing.

I will create a safe space for our work, where you will feel fully supported, and make myself available by phone and email in between sessions if things come up. Clients often tell me that I am easy to talk to and non-judgmental.

Insurance info
I am in-network with United Behavioral Health / Optum, Blue Shield of California, Magellan, and Wellspring EAP, and Workplace Options EAP. If I am out-of-network with your PPO, I may be able to bill directly. Otherwise, you can pay up front and I can provide you with a statement each month, and your insurance company can reimburse you at the \out-of-network provider\ rate. Many plans reimburse for an out-of-network provider at a rate comparable to an in-network provider, so the main difference is paying up-front and being reimbursed rather than just paying a co-pay.
